GR News

As I'm sure those of you reading this in Michigan already know, a building blew up in Eastown yesterday. Apparently there was a gas leak at the building across the street from Yesterdog and in front of Eastown Deli - the building Pepper Moon Gallery used to be in - I for one didn't know they weren't in business any more. Complete coverage by me, I know. :) The pictures are amazing and I can't say that I wouldn't have wandered over there to check it out if I still lived in GR. Instead I've been checking it out via the internet - photo gallery here.

Not Trying to Rub it In

I ate lunch outside today. It was AWESOME. Plus today is predicted to be the coldest day this week. It wasn't super warm, but in the sun I took my jacket off. I promise I'm not trying to rub it in to all of you stuck in Michigan snow. I just think that maybe it could be a good idea to come for a visit, or to stay.

Paid Holiday

Today is my first paid holiday at the new job, and I'm sitting here this morning really thankful. I had a couple moments this weekend where I was back in my old phase of - I need to expand my world and meet more people. It's true - and - I still have it pretty good. I have a paid holiday, I had a lot of good times this weekend (as evidenced in the pic above), and when I really sit back and think about it, I realize I have it pretty good.

Pretties

I got new contacts and picked out these pretty new glasses this morning. I'm really excited to be able to wear contacts again and to have glasses that I can feel good about wearing in about a week. Plus it was about 50 degrees and sunny here today. It was a good day.

Step Three

I called the insurance company tonight to get better insurance on my car. As it turns out - this whole month I've had a bit more insurance than I thought I did. I could have driven it, just wouldn't have gotten any money if I were in an accident. I'm glad I didn't know that. So this weekend it's time to update the registration and take pictures to try and unload this thing. And by unload I mean sell it for a reasonable amount because it's a great car. I think I've been over pricing considering some of the things I started to remember about it. Like - broken air conditioning, broken trunk, broken gas door thingy, and the fact that it only says AM, not Grand Am on the back. Craigslist here I come.

Where Does Passion Come From?

"This is what I'm doing." The thought kept running through my head all day long today. It wasn't bad, or good for that matter, just factual. There's something though that I've been realizing in the last couple weeks. This job is going to get boring pretty fast. I've been saying that the thing I like the most about my job is that it pays the bills, I don't dread going into work in the morning, and since I don't think about it while I'm not there it leaves me free to do the things I really want to do. The thing is that I don't know what that is. The best I've come up with is to start doing and trying things and then keep doing the things I like and leave the things I don't. Up next is volunteering for game night at a local old folks home, reading more, and yoga classes. I feel a strange pressure to find the things I'm passionate about. It feels like something I should just know. I don't.

Update: Lehrer's

As it turns out the letter that Sheralee received from the president of Lehrer's was an automatic response letter from the first time she called and spoke with a customer service person. He (president of Lehrer's) did call back a couple days later and apologized that our friend did not get what we ordered for her and gave us a full refund.

I still hold that the front line customer service people should have the discretion to offer that in the appropriate circumstances, and, I'm thankful that the company did do right by us. Sorry friend - we do know you better than those flowers.

Lehrer's

In keeping with my rants and raves on customer service I would like to RANT about how disappointed I am in the service from Lehrer's flowers here in Denver. Last week Sheralee and I sent flowers to a friend for her birthday. We picked out a super cute arrangement on their website and and ordered it by name. (The Strawberry Spring Bouquet to be specific) After she received the flowers she sent us a picture and the flowers were nothing like the flowers we ordered. Instead of "Gerbera daisies, anemonies, tulips and seeded eucalyptus" there were yellow roses, carnations and palm fronds. I kid you not. The arrangement we chose was short - would have sat nicely on a desk or table, and the arrangement she received was huge - looked like something that would sit in front of church or that you'd send to the funeral home.

Sheralee called and was told that either they would resend the flowers or give a 30% refund. It was past our friend's birthday, and other people had sent her flowers, so to send MORE flowers seemed like overkill. We didn't get what we ordered and so a 30% refund seemed like too little too late. Sheralee then wrote an email to the president of the company and later received a letter from him about how important customer service was to him, but still only credited her the 30%. I will not be calling them again and I urge you not to either. There are plenty of good florists in this city.

Random

I have some sort of random happiness that I can't explain but am certainly enjoying today. Even though this is the scene in Denver - more snow. Blech.
