Happy Fat Tuesday

I can not stop dreaming about Paczki (poonch-key) today. My stomach is unsettled, and yet, I think I might give my first born for a taste of Paczki and I can't find any evidence of a Polish bakery in Denver. Did you know that Paczki is really just a Detroit, Chicago and Grand Rapids thing? No one here has heard of them - they look at me like I'm crazy. Admittedly there is a ton more emotionally going on and I think I just want to be comforted more than anything - the Paczki is just getting the brunt of the attention today. I did after all eat an ENTIRE BOX of Tagalongs yesterday. No joke.
UPDATE: (Feb 4, 2008) - So tomorrow is Fat Tuesday again, and my tracker tells me I'm not the only person looking for Paczki in Denver. The only place I've been able to locate Paczki here is at the Royal Bakery in Arvada (9606 Ralston Road, Arvada, Colorado, 303-940-2065). Their hours are 8 - 5 though, so I won't be able to make it out there. Wah wha.

Well let's just say that a generic jelly donut was not a very good substitute. My goal is to find the polish population in Denver by next february.

Oh where, oh where could my paczki be, oh where oh where could it be? Tubby Tuesday brings sadness to this Michigan Polish boy living in Denver....

Today, February 11th is the Polish Fat Thursday. It means that you should eat as many Paczki as you can. Unfortunately, I usually miss it and end up with none of that wonderful Polish delight. There are other places you can find PACZKI. Check out Elegant Bakery (Lakewood)and their Napoleons, Polish stores such as Sawa Meat and Market. Smacznego!!!

Let me just say that typing in "Fort Collins paczki" gave me your website and that I am terribly disappointed to read that this tradition doesn't exist in this state. It was so perfect up until RIGHT NOW.

I guess I'm moving back to Michigan just for that 1 day/year.

p.s. Hello

Hi Maria, I lived in Detroit for 15 years and we always had paczki for Fat Tuesday. We got the genuine article from a baker in hamtamk.

I grew up in pittsburgh and my mom was polish she made her own paczki and they were the best. I tried making them from her recipe but mine were not as good and it takes a lot of time.

Thanks for the post on where to buy paczki in denver. I have lived here for 8 years and had not found them yet.
I'll be driving to arvada first thing in the morning.

The "Polish Community" is in Wheat Ridge. Kipling & 30-somethings-ish. I went to a "Polish festival" this summer. It was at a Polish Falcons club & aside from my friends & I, the only people there were all family. And very few... But I did have the best stuffed cabbage ever there. Mmm. Kinga's on Colfax & Marion in Denver is a Polish bar. They have pierogi & other delicacies. I would recommend calling them. Maybe they have a good lead. I myself am from Buffalo, NY. HUGE Polish community there. Living out of Buffalo makes me realize how few people actually care about Easter. It's a big deal to us Great Lakes folks. Not so much everywhere else. I miss Buffalo's Broadway Market- Polski Central! Good luck finding your PACZKI! :)

We should all gather together and open a Polish bakery because this is just ridiculous! :)

I'm another Maria in Denver from Detroit - my god I want a Paczki today. I happen to be flying home tomorrow and i'm trying to see if someone will save me one... A paczki truck would be phenomenal in Denver. Way better than the far too ubiquitous cupcake trucks.

King Soopers had them this year! I did not know this, and have been actively searching for paczki since I moved out here in 2008. Hubby and I were grocery shopping, and I found a box. Apparently, they had a ton of them, but the only flavor left was prune (ick, but I needed some paczki!!!--yes, I know, post Fat Tuesday, lol). Anyway, they aren't fantastic, but they will suffice.
